Wellcraft

3500 Corsair; 3600 St. Tropez

1992–93

Wellcraft 3500 Corsair; 3600 St. Tropez
Lasting only two years in production, this entry-level family cruiser was introduced in 1992 as the 3500 Corsair and renamed the 3600 St. Tropez the following year. She was a rakish boat by the standards of her day with an integrated swim platform, a tall arch, and a wraparound windshield. By eliminating the side decks, Wellcraft engineers were able to able to create a wide-open and expansive interior with plenty of elbow space. Where many other express boats this size have mid-cabin floorplans, the Corsair/St. Tropez has a conventional layout with a single stateroom and berths for six. There’s a separate stall shower in the head, and the starboard settee converts into upper and lower bunks. Note that a solid door provides privacy in the stateroom—a rare luxury in a modern family express. Topside, cockpit seating includes a triple helm seat, aft-facing bench seating, and another bench seat at the transom. Lacking side decks, a windshield walk-through provides access to the bow. Twin 400hp (502-cid) MerCruiser gas inboards (with V-drives and side exhausts) will cruise at about 20 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 30 knots.
