2600 Prima

1990–93

Wellcraft 2600 Prima
The Wellcraft 287 Prima is a maxi-cube family cruiser with a high-freeboard profile (note the elevated foredeck) and good all-around performance characteristics. Sharing her hull with Wellcraft’s 2600 Coastal fishing boat, she’s constructed on a solid fiberglass, modified-V hull with moderate beam and a steep 18 degrees of transom deadrise. Below decks, the Prima’s full-width midcabin floorplan will sleep five with privacy curtains separating the fore and aft sleeping areas from the rest of the cabin. There’s a flexible shower in the head compartment, and the absence of interior bulkheads results in a wide-open layout. Note, however, that headroom is only 6 feet in the main cabin. The cockpit is arranged with a double helm seat forward and bench seating aft. Engine access is via removable hatches in the cockpit sole. Additional features include a walk-through windshield, an integral swim platform, foredeck sun pad, bow pulpit, and oval ports in the hullsides. Twin 155hp MerCruiser V-6 sterndrives cruise at 21–22 knots (about 30 knots top), and a single Volvo 330hp Duoprop will cruise at an efficient 25 knots and top out in the mid-to-high 30s.
