Wellcraft

250 Sportsman

1986–92

One of Wellcraft's most popular models for many years, the 250 Sportsman is a straightforward family fisherman with a functional bi-level cockpit and practical cabin accommodations. (While no one is going to call the Sportsman a hard-core fishing machine, her sistership—the 250 Coastal—is basically the same boat with a more basic interior and additional cockpit fishing amenities.) Notably, the Sportsman’s narrow beam and relatively lightweight hull (for a 26-footer) made her one of the largest trailerable fishing boats available from Wellcraft during her production years. With her wide side decks, the Sportsman's cuddy cabin may be compact in size but it’s rich in features. There are berths for two forward, a port-side quarter-berth aft, a removable dinette table, mini-galley, and an enclosed head compartment. The cockpit has about 60 square feet of fishing space and bait boxes are built into the transom. Among many sterndrive and outboard engine options, a single 260-hp I/O will cruise the 250 Sportsman at 18–19 knots, and twin 150hp outboards will cruise around 25 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood od 35–36 knots.
