Designed to compete in the international market, the 680 Sun Sport is the largest Sea Ray model ever built. The Sun Sport showcased Sea Ray’s world-class engineering and production skills at a time when an influx of big high-performance European express yachts was posing a challenge to U.S. builders. Built on a balsa-cored hull, the Sun Sport’s elegant three-stateroom interior features a fully enclosed pilothouse with retractable sunroof, teak and holly flooring, twin power helm seats, and Ultraleather lounge seating. Stepping below, the lower salon includes a pullout sofa with dinette and entertainment center with flat-screen TV. To port is a full-service galley with SubZero refrigeration, high-gloss cherry cabinets, and granite counters. The master stateroom with private head is forward, and the VIP stateroom with private head is aft. A smaller stateroom with over/under berths is adjacent to the VIP. Crew quarters for two are aft, accessed from the cockpit. Note that the Sun Sport lacks the transom garage of many European competitors. (A hydraulic swim platform for PWC storage was optional.) Cat 1400hp 3412 diesels cruise at 24–26 knots (30+ knots top). About a dozen of these yachts were built.
