650 Cockpit Motor Yacht
1992–96
Before the introduction of the limited-production 680 Sun Sport in 2001, the 650 Cockpit Motor Yacht was the largest boat Sea Ray had ever produced. Built on a fully cored hull with a wide 18-foot beam, she was an impressive yacht in her day with a rakish profile and an innovative floorplan. What makes the layout unusual is the aft engine room, a configuration that allows the master suite to be located amidships—rather than aft, as in most motor yachts—where the beam is the greatest. There are three guest staterooms forward along with two full heads and a walk-in utility room. The full-width salon of the 650 is arranged with the galley and breakfast bar forward and a formal dining area to port. A passageway leads to the enclosed pilothouse with its centerline helm and watch berth. Outside, the cockpit has room for a few deck chairs and provides easy access to the engine room below. While the flybridge can handle a small crowd, it doesn’t compare with the party-size platforms found on most other 65-footers. A good-running boat, 870hp (or 900hp) 12V71s cruise at 20 knots (24 knots wide open), and 12-cylinder 1,000hp MTUs cruise at 23 knots (27–28 top). A total of 12 of these yachts were built.
