Sea Ray Yachts
550 Sundancer
2002–04
The Sea Ray 550 Sundancer is basically an updated version of the company’s earlier 540 Sundancer (1998–2001) with a revised interior, a restyled hardtop, and an overhead skylight to add some natural lighting to the salon. Built on a modified-V hull with a solid fiberglass bottom, the 550’s luxurious two-stateroom layout is highlighted by its beaujpgul high-gloss cherry woodwork, a long, curved Ultraleather sofa to port (which converts electrically into a slide-out bed), and a curved galley to starboard with a built-in 42-inch plasma TV and a Lexan wine rack. Both staterooms include double berths, and the small refrigerator at the base of the companionway steps can be replaced by a washer/dryer combo. In the spacious cockpit, the two L-shaped settees convert at the push of a button into a massive sun pad. Additional features (among many) include a foredeck sun pad, a superb helm console, and a standard bow thruster. Note that the engine room is a tight fit. Twin 640hp Cat inboard diesels cruise the Sea Ray 550 Sundancer in the mid 20s (about 30 knots top), and a pair of 765hp MANs cruise at 28 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 32–33 knots.
