Rybo Runner
30 Center Console
1982–89
The Rybo Runner 30 is a high performance offshore fisherman with a double-stepped hull designed to significantly reduce wetted surface when planing—perhaps the earliest application of a stepped hull used in a production fisherman. The Rybo Runner is known as a well-built boat—hull construction is solid fiberglass and a full-length inner liner adds rigidity—but none were built by Rybovich. (In fact, they were apparently built by inventor/engine builder Cal Connel at a shop in Bradenton, FL.) The helm flat has space for flush-mounting electronics and the console is large enough to house a standup head and shower. In the cockpit sole are two long lift-out fish boxes, and wide gunwales are a signature feature of Rybo Runners. The cockpit can easily accommodate a fighting chair. Rybos were semi-custom boats and many were equipped with a Rybovich tower and outriggers. The ride quality of this boat is almost legendary among owners. Power options included twin outboards from 225hp to 275hp, twin 205hp OMC SeaDrives, twin gas inboards and a single inboard diesel. A total of 85 were built. Those who know claim that today’s Dusky 33 are derived from the Rybo Runner molds.
