A semi-custom boat built by Roscioli to high production standards, the Donzi R-72 is a muscular, high-end sportfisherman with the agility and range to satisfy the most demanding tournament angler. The hull is a stretched version of the original Donzi Z-65, a moderate-deadrise design with a wide beam, a well-flared bow, and good lift. The additional seven feet of length allows a true VIP guest stateroom below and an ensuite head for the other guest cabin. The salon is absolutely huge—nearly a third of the overall hull length—and there are crew quarters below the galley area with direct access to the engine room and cockpit. Aside from a spacious interior and the huge cockpit, the open flybridge (an enclosed bridge is optional) has a wet bar and lounge seating for a crowd. A great-looking boat with a dramatic profile (note the long foredeck), the Donzi R-72 will cruise around 30 knots with 1,400hp Detroit 16V92s and reach a top speed of 34 knots. Upgrading to the new 1,800hp 24V71 Detroits (an extra $200,000+) will produce a top speed of close to 38 knots. About a dozen of these mega-sportfishing yachts were built during the mid-1990s.
