33 Convertible

Introduced to the American market in 1990, the Riviera 33 ranks among the most popular small convertibles of her era. For years, Riviera was the largest builder of production boats in Australia. They quickly gained a reputation in this country for durable construction, modern design, and good open-water performance. Initially, the appeal of the Riviera 33 was linked to her very affordable price, the result of a favorable exchange rate versus the Australian dollar during most of the 1990s. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, and like all Riviera models she has a collision bulkhead forward and two watertight bulkheads aft. Riviera produced the 33 with a single-stateroom interior featuring an island queen berth forward, spacious salon, and standard lower helm with deluxe helm chair. (A less popular two-stateroom configuration has V-berths forward, over/under bunks in the guest cabin, and a smaller salon.) Note the storage area below the galley floor. The cockpit—large for a boat this size—includes lazarette storage, freezer and sink, transom door, and direct engine room access. Cummins 315hp diesels cruise in the low 20s (26–28 knots top).
