27 Weekender

1979–94

Phoenix 27 Weekender
A popular model for many years, the Phoenix 27 Weekender is a straightforward offshore express without a lot of frills. Construction is solid fiberglass, and a full-length inner liner is bonded to the hull for added strength. As with other Jim Wynne designs, the Phoenix 27 has propeller pockets recessed into her deep-V hull for reduced shaft angles. Since over half of the boat’s length is devoted to the single-level cockpit, the interior is necessarily compact with V-berths, a complete galley with refrigerator and storage, and standup head with shower. The engines are located under raised engine boxes that can easily double as bait-watching seats. The cockpit is spacious for a 27-footer with about 100 square feet of fishing space. In addition to the standard Weekender model, the 27 was offered in a “Fishbuster” version (1979–89) with the galley located forward and to port in the cockpit. Standard 270hp gas engines cruise the Phoenix 27 at 22–23 knots (about 30 knots top), and optional 200hp Volvo diesels cruise around 25 knots and top out in the high 20s. With a pair of 250hp Yamaha outboards, the 27 Weekender will hit a top speed of 40 knots.
