Monaro
27
1992–2004
Built in British Columbia, the Monaro 27 is a conservatively styled Canadian cruiser whose sturdy construction and practical accommodations have made her a popular boat since her 1992 introduction. The Monaro rides on a solid fiberglass deep-V hull with a sharp entry, a relatively wide 9-foot, 5-inch beam, and a bolt-on swim platform. With her large cockpit, the interior of the Monaro is a little smaller than other express boats her size although anglers will certainly appreciate the generous cockpit dimensions. There are berths for four below including a convertible dinette/V-berth forward and an athwartships double-berth aft, beneath the bridgedeck. Cabin headroom is excellent thanks to her elevated foredeck. Because of her spacious cockpit, the Monaro 27 makes a fine light-tackle fisherman, although her high freeboard makes it a long reach over the gunwales to the water. (The entire cockpit sole can be removed for engine and tank access.) Among several engine options, a single 216hp Volvo diesel will cruise the Monaro in the high 20s and reach a top speed of 30+ knots. Twin 220hp Volvo gas sterndrives cruise at 25 knots (35+ knots wide open). Note that a hardtop version came out in 1995.
