Innovator

31 Sportfisherman

1987–93

Innovator 31 Sportfisherman
The Innovator 31 is a well-built West Coast design with a single-minded objective: catching fish. Introduced in 1988, she was updated in late 1991 and re-introduced as the Innovator 30 (see lower floorplan below). Only a few of the 30s were built, however, and of the two models the original 31 sold better (about 35 were built) and remains better-known today. The hull is solid glass, and the deadrise at the transom is a modest 12˚. Inside, the cabin is arranged with berths for four along with a compact galley and a standup head with shower. The cockpit comes with two in-deck fish boxes along with washdowns and rod holders. Engine boxes provide excellent access to the motors, and molded cockpit steps at the cockpit corners lead to extra-wide side decks. Gas engines were standard, but most Innovators were delivered with one of several diesel options. Among them, Cummins 210hp diesels will deliver an impressive cruising speed of 23–24 knots and a top speed of around 28 knots.
