Hyundai 49 Motor Yacht
The Hyundai 49 Motor Yacht (also called the Elegant 49 and Sonata 5300) was one of only a handful of Korean yachts ever imported into the American market. The price was low, but quality and attention to detail of the early models failed to meet expectations. (Later models showed significant construction improvements.) To most observers, the styling of the Elegant 49 is different, to say the least, and the boat has a distinctive awkward appearance that few find attractive. She’s built on a fully cored hull with a wide beam and 14 degrees of transom deadrise. Below, the two-stateroom, galley-down interior is a blend of traditional teak paneling and attractive off-white laminates. A lower helm was standard, and both staterooms contain walkaround queen beds. Topside, a wet bar was standard on the aft deck, and the flybridge is arranged with the helm forward and guest seating aft. Additional features include a salon deck access door, wide side decks, and a Jacuzzi in the aft head (!). Note the absence of a stall shower in the forward head—unusual in a motor yacht this size. Optional Cat 375hp diesels (300hp GM 8.2s were originally standard) cruise at 15–16 knots.
