Hylas
47 Convertible
1987–93
Built in Taiwan, the Hylas 47 is a rakish flybridge convertible with a Euro-style profile and a notably wide beam. While she may have the appearance of a conventional sport fishing boat, she’s really more suited to family cruising. The hull was drawn by Jim Wynne and features balsa-cored hullsides, prop pockets, and plenty of freeboard all around. The interior is incredibly expansive thanks to the 47’s super-wide beam, and she’s the only boat in this size range to feature walkaround queen berths in both staterooms. (A three-stateroom layout with the galley up was optional.) The front windows are real, not glassed-over, and both heads have separate stall showers. The deep cockpit is large enough for a fighting chair, but the gunwales are abnormally high and not well-suited to fishing. Note the cockpit engine room access door. On balance, the main features of the Hylas are centered around her spacious accommodations and glitzy, 1980’s styling. Additional features include a molded bow pulpit, teak interior trim, and a transom door. Twin 450hp 6-71 diesels cruise in the low 20s (25–26 knots top), and optional 550hp 6V92s cruise at 24 knots (26–27 knots top).
