Duffy

42 Flybridge

1985–2006

A classic lobster boat profile and a high level of craftsmanship made the Duffy 42 one of the more popular Downeast cruisers of her day. These are rugged semicustom boats with cored hulls and a full length keel below—seaworthy designs with beaujpgul sheers, protected running gear, and generous cockpits. There are several versions of the Duffy 42 and most were custom built to a buyer’s specifications. The two-stateroom, galley-up floorplan of the Flybridge Cruiser (pictured above) features an island berth forward and bunk berths in the guest cabin. A lower helm is standard, and the conservative interior decor is functional and well-finished. Engine room access is very good. While very a few Duffy 42s built for private use (many are used commercially) have been powered with a single 375hp Cat (14–15 knots cruise/around 18 knots wide open), most later models have been delivered with twin 375hp Cats for a cruising speed of around 20 knots. Either way, the low-speed cruising range is an impressive 450–500 miles. A class act, used Duffy 42s — always rare — are considered premium boats on the used markets.
