DeFever

40 Offshore Cruiser

1984–91

DeFever 40 Offshore Cruiser
Very few built The DeFever 40 is a somewhat untraditional double cabin trawler with a flat sheerline—something seldom seen in a trawler-style design—and a distinctive low-profile appearance. She was built by CTF in Taiwan on a solid fiberglass hull with hard aft chines and a deep keel for prop protection. Her galley-up floorplan includes a large aft cabin and a somewhat compact main salon. While many boats in this size range have galley-up layouts, few have the galley aft in the salon, as does the DeFever 40. A lower helm was standard, and there are port and starboard deck doors in the salon. As it is in most Asian-built boats, the grain-matched teak interior is beaujpgully finished throughout. Topside, there’s plenty of space on the aft deck for dinghy storage. Additional features include full walkaround decks, a well-arranged flybridge with guest seating around the helm, radar arch, and a large engineroom with good access to the motors. Standard 240hp Perkins diesels cruise the DeFever 40 at an economical 12–13 knots (about 15 knots top). Optional 320hp Cats cruise at 14–15 knots and top out at close to 18 knots.
