Cobia

296 Center Console

2012–17

Cobia 296 Center Console
Introduced in 2012 as Cobia’s flagship model, the 296 Center Console is a competitively priced fishing platform whose level deck layout provides secure footing from bow to stern. Recessed bow rails extend back to the helm area, and the Cobia’s high freeboard results in an unusually deep and secure cockpit for a boat this size. Also notable is the roomy step-down head compartment (with forward entry) of the 296 where an electric head, two opening ports, sink, and hand-held shower are standard. Split forward seats are a plus—they make it easy to get around in the bow area. Both helm seats have drop-down bolsters, and the dash has space for two big-screen video displays. Fishing features include two 28-gallon recirculating livewells in the transom, a pair of big in-deck fish boxes in the cockpit sole, leaning post with tackle storage, gunnel rod holders (8), and under-gunnel rod storage. A fold-out transom seat, cockpit coaming pads, trim tabs, fresh and raw-water washdowns, and pull-up cleats are standard. The hardtop (optional) has outriggers, an electronics box, and three rod holders on each aft leg. Yamaha F250s reach 45+ knots.
