Cobalt
263
2001–07
For many Cobalt enthusiasts, the 263 is the perfect day boat. Small enough to trailer, big enough for eight, and fast enough to keep the adrenaline flowing, the 263 takes open-water fun to the next level. She’s built on a Kevlar-reinforced deep-V hull with an aggressive 22 degrees of transom deadrise—enough to smooth out some fairly rough water. Unlike many closed-bow runabouts, the 262’s cockpit incorporates a center transom walk-through, a design that provides quick and easy access to the swim platform. Filler cushions convert the aft deck into a huge sun pad. Below, the well-appointed cabin contains a U-shaped leather settee, galley pod with sink, storage cabinets, and a portable toilet. The 263 is loaded with standard features including woodgrain dash panels, a teak swim platform, transom shower, bow scuff plate, flip-up bolster seats, and a power engine hatch. Docking lights and a reverse sport arch were optional. A good open-water performer, a single Volvo 375hp DuoProp I/O delivers a top speed in excess of 40 knots. Note that a previous Cobalt 263 was produced in 1989–1991.
