Cobalt
262
2009–14
Cobalt got it right with the newest 262 Bowrider, an updated version of the original 262 model built from 2000 to 2007. A modern blend of sportboat styling and luxurious amenities, the 262 is a sexy headturuner whose top-notch construction comes as no surprise to those familiar with Cobalt products. The hull is reinforced with Kevlar, and an integrated all-fiberglass stringer system results in a completely wood-free boat. A burlwood panel dash and Cobalt’s signature leather-wrapped wheel are prominent in the cockpit, and L-shaped settees on both sides provide seating for guests. Sun lounges are over the engine boxes, which are accessed with actuators. A lift-up locker under the sun pad reveals a tool kit and a 12-volt inflator for water toys. A forward-raked sport arch and cockpit canvas were popular options. The Cobalt has plenty of well-considered stowage areas including a huge, hinged space forward of the helm large enough to take a dozen life vests. Elsewhere, the tall sides of the 262’s hull—with its reversed chines and deep-V bottom—make for a dry ride when the winds pick up. A single 320hp MerCruiser I/O tops out at close to 40 knots.
