262 Amerosport

The good news about the 262 Amerosport is that, in her day at least, she was a fairly good-looking boat with contemporary lines, a comfortable (if Spartan) interior, and a roomy cockpit. (The 262 was, in fact, the first Amerosport model to have an integral swim platform when she came out in 1988—a small distinction perhaps, but we’ll note it for the record.) Here’s the bad news: all Amerosport models were pretty cheap entry-level boats with below-average finish and construction. Actually, Chris Craft had to recall a number of early 262 Amerosports when owners began reporting problems with hull cracking. The interior is roomy enough and the midcabin layout is arranged in the standard way efficient, etc., but the fabrics, hardware, and fixtures did not compare well with other entry-level boats. There are berths for six (with the dinette converted), a small galley with under-counter refrigeration, and a standup head with shower. Outside, the cockpit is arranged with a doublewide seat at the helm and bench seating aft. Note the tubular radar arch. A single 275hp Volvo sterndrive will cruise the 262 Amerosport at 18–20 knots (30+ top).
