Also known as the CHB 48 Motor Yacht, and—on the West Coast—the Ponderosa 48, the Seamaster 48 is basically an inexpensive, Taiwan-built copy of the original Hatteras 48 Motor Yacht (1981–84). The Seamaster is built on a solid fiberglass modified-V hull with moderate beam, hard chines, and a shallow, full-length keel for directional stability. The spacious three-stateroom, three-head floorplan—with only a single stall shower—is virtually identical to that of the Hatteras 48 Motor Yacht. The interior is finished with an abundance of teak cabinetry and woodwork throughout. A lower helm was optional, and a workbench is found in the standup engine room. The Seamaster features a truly spacious afterdeck with wet bar and wing doors. (Note that the side decks on this boat are very wide.) Topside, there’s seating for eight on the large flybridge. At 39,000 pounds, the Seamaster is slightly lighter than the Hatteras 48 MY she so blatantly imitates, and most were imported with too-small 375hp Cat diesels to keep the price down. No racehorse, the cruising speed of the Seamaster 48 Motor Yacht is 12–14 knots (around 16 knots top).
