Camargue
48 Yachtfish
1987–93
The Camargue 48 Yachtfish pictured above stood out among most Asian imports of the late 1980s for her stylish profile, excellent glasswork, and above-average fit and finish. She’s basically a Camargue 42 Sundeck with a cockpit extension. The hull is a modified-V design with a relatively wide 15'5" beam, cored hull sides, and a shallow keel for stability. Below decks, her two-stateroom layout with the galley and dinette down has a spacious and wide-open salon without skimping on the stateroom dimensions. Note that an optional three-stateroom layout eliminated the dinette. The portside lower helm (an option) is cleverly concealed within an exquisite roll-top console—very nice indeed. The grain-matched teak interior woodwork is very impressive, and visibility from the lower helm is okay as long as you’re not trying to see aft. The Camargue’s extra-wide side decks are worth noting as are the well-organized engine room and comfortable bridge. Standard 375hp Caterpillar diesels cruise the Camargue 48 YF around 18–19 knots, and optional 485hp 6-71s will provide a brisk 22 knots at cruise and a top speed in the mid to high 20s. About 50 were built.
