Burns Craft
40 Motor Yacht
1983–87
With her conservative lines and traditional aft cabin interior, the Burns Craft 40 Motor Yacht was one of several Burns Craft models available from this now-deceased Alabama manufacturer during the mid to late 1980s. She was built on a modified-V hull with a solid fiberglass bottom and balsa-cored hullsides, and her 14-foot, 3-inch beam is relatively wide for a 40-footer. The Burns Craft is a roomy boat inside and the salon dimensions are especially generous. There’s a full-size dinette in the salon (a convenience not always found in a 40-foot motor yacht), double berths in both staterooms, separate stall showers in each heads, and a fair amount of interior storage space. A lower helm was standard, and the interior is fully finished with teak cabinetry and paneling. Hatches in the salon sole provide good access to the engines. While the aft deck isn’t particularly large, there’s enough room for lounging around with a few deck chairs. Additional features include wide side decks, radar arch, bow pulpit, and hardtop. Twin 350hp gas engines cruise the Burns Craft 40 at 14–16 knots, and 355hp Caterpillar diesels cruise in the neighborhood of 20 knots.
