34 Defiance; 350 Defiance

The Boston Whaler 34 Defiance (called the 350 Defiance in 2002) is a premium express fisherman with a number of innovative features to go with her upscale price. The Defiance is built on a deep-V hull with generous beam and wide, spray-deflecting chines. Like other Whalers, foam flotation between the inner and outer hulls makes her unsinkable. In the cockpit, aft-facing seats at the corners conceal a cooler to port and a freezer to starboard, and the transom door slides into the transom—very slick. A livewell is built into the transom, and a full bait prep station is forward, next to the cockpit freezer. For engine access, the entire bridge deck slides aft on rollers (rather than lifting from the back on hydraulic rams), which makes getting at the motors easy, even while running. The exhaust is expelled beneath the hull while the boat is on plane and above the waterline at lower speeds. Additional features include a spacious, well-finished interior, a centerline helm with flanking settees, and a power windshield vent. Twin 340hp Cat diesels cruise at 24 knots (27–28 knots top), and optional 420hp Yanmars cruise at 25 knots (about 30 top).
