Bestway
50 Cockpit Motor Yacht
1982–88
The Bestway 50 Cockpit MY (sistership to the Bestway 46 Sundeck) is typical of many Taiwan imports from the 1980s in that she offered an appealing mix of solid construction, traditional full teak interior, and a very competitive price. Conservatively styled, the Bestway rides on a solid fiberglass hull with a moderate 14'6" beam and a shallow keel for directional stability. Her two-stateroom interior has both the galley and dinette down which allows for a very open salon. A lower helm and deck access door were standard, and there’s space in the master stateroom for a built-in washer/dryer. The engine room is accessed via removable hatches in the salon sole. Note that the forward head lacks a separate stall shower. Topside, the Bestway’s full-width aft deck is large enough to accommodate several pieces of deck furniture, while the flybridge is arranged with guest seating forward to port of the centerline helm. Additional features include cockpit storage lockers, radar arch, swim platform, and teak-and-holly cabin sole. Among several engine options, twin 235hp Lehmans cruise at 8–10 knots, and 310hp Volvos cruise in the neighborhood of 15 knots.
