Bayliner Yachts
3688 Motor Yacht
1992–94
Built on a conventional modified-V hull with a moderate beam and prop pockets to reduce draft, the Bayliner 3688 Motor Yacht (some might call this a flybridge sedan) is an entry-level family cruiser with sporty lines and an innovative mid-cabin floorplan. In an unusual design configuration, a portside staircase located just inside the salon door leads down to the mid-cabin, where there’s partial standing headroom and a built-in vanity. The downside of this arrangement is that the space devoted to the staircase consumes a fair amount of salon space. Consequently, this seems like a small salon for a 36-footer with little room to move around between the raised dinette and lower helm. Privacy for the forward stateroom is limited to a sliding curtain, and the absence of a stall shower in the head is notable. Additional features include an integral swim platform with built-in shower and transom door, port and starboard cockpit steps (to access the side decks), and a comfortably large flybridge with seating for six. Twin 200hp U.S. Marine diesels (with V-drives) will cruise at 15 knots with a top speed of 17–18 knots. Optional 250hp diesels cruise a couple of knots faster.
