Viking 82 Demo Dominates: A Recap of Its Stellar Performance on the Tournament Circuit This Season
Since its announcement in April and its dealer debut in June 2024, the Viking 82 Convertible has been hot on the summer tournament trail, making bold statements by showing off its capabilities and even winning a tournament series. As Pat Healey states, “We build boats and we fish boats…That’s what we do,” and that statement could not be more accurate with the Viking 82 Convertible’s already impressive summer success story. Continuing the 30 plus year tradition of the Viking Demo Program, Hull #1 of the Viking 82 Convertible immediately left its dealer debut in Atlantic City, NJ and headed South to the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City, NC. The 82 made a pit stop along the way with Team HMY riding along to experience the new model’s impressive ride in preparation for a customer sea trial. During the Big Rock, the 82 Demo Team had an impressive start with several white marlin and sailfish releases.
From the Big Rock, the 82 made the long trek to Bermuda for the Bermuda Triple Crown Series, demonstrating that this new model is a global battlewagon. After its arrival to Bermuda, the 82 Demo made a global statement by not just boating a 622 lb. blue marlin early in leg 1 of the series, but by winning the entire series with well over a dozen blue marlin releases and several white marlin releases! Since Bermuda, the Viking 82 has remained incredibly competitive in multiple tournament series, including most recently the White Marlin Open. The team had a successful day three going 5/5 on white marlin release. Going forward, the team will wrap up the summer season with the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament in Manteo, NC.
