There was a little something special in the air at Bahia Mar Marina in Fort Lauderdale in early Juley as women from across South Florida gathered for She's The Captain, a collaborative event hosted by MJM Yachts and HMY Yacht Sales. More than just a day on the water, the experience was designed to inspire confidence, build practical boating skills, and encourage more women to take the helm.
For many attendees, it was an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone. For others, it was a chance to sharpen existing skills in a welcoming, supportive environment. Regardless of experience level, everyone shared the same goal: becoming more confident and capable boaters. We had two amazing, accomplished female captains providing the instruction so that it was a dedicated ladies only day on the water.
Learning by Doing
The day centered around hands-on instruction, giving participants the opportunity to develop real-world boating skills under the guidance of Captain Lauren Warren and Captain Boomies (aka Kate D'Alleva). Rather than simply watching demonstrations, attendees were encouraged to take the controls themselves, practicing the techniques that every boater can benefit from.

From understanding vessel handling to building confidence behind the wheel, each exercise was designed to help participants feel comfortable making decisions on the water. Questions were encouraged, experiences were shared, and every success—big or small—was celebrated.
The relaxed, encouraging atmosphere made it easy for participants to learn at their own pace while connecting with other women who share a passion for boating.

More Than a Boating Event
At its heart, She's The Captain was about more than learning how to operate a boat—it was about empowering women to feel confident, independent, and capable on the water.
Boating has long been a shared experience among families and friends, but events like this help ensure more women feel equipped to take the lead, whether they're leaving the dock, navigating a new destination, or simply enjoying a day cruising with loved ones.
The event fostered an incredible sense of community, proving that confidence grows through education, encouragement, and experience.

The Perfect Platform: MJM Yachts
The event showcased the versatility and ease of operation that make MJM Yachts an exceptional platform for both experienced and aspiring boaters. Known for their intuitive handling, innovative design, and comfortable onboard living spaces, MJM models provided the ideal setting for participants to build confidence while enjoying a premium on-water experience.

The success of She's The Captain reflects a growing movement within the boating community—one that celebrates education, inclusivity, and empowering more women to embrace life on the water with confidence.
HMY Yacht Sales and MJM Yachts are proud to support opportunities that make boating more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Seeing participants leave the dock with greater confidence than when they arrived was a reminder of what makes events like this so meaningful.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and helped make She's The Captain such a memorable experience. We look forward to welcoming even more women aboard for future events as we continue to inspire the next generation of confident captains.
Until next time—see you on the water.
