Since their stateside debut in 2017, Nimbus Boats have quietly redefined luxury on the water. Revered for their impeccable craftsmanship, Scandinavian design, and balance of performance and comfort, Nimbus vessels have found an elite following among seasoned mariners and style-conscious boaters alike.

One such individual is David Dorwart, a lifelong boating enthusiast whose pursuit of the perfect powerboat led him to the Nimbus Tender 11 (T11). With an eye for quality and an appetite for adventure, David discovered that Nimbus offered not just a day boat of excellence, but an entire experience worthy of his Bahamian aspirations.

A Legacy of East Coast Cruising

Based in Philadelphia for most of the year, David has long enjoyed the rich boating culture of the Northeast. But with a residence in North Palm Beach, he set his sights on extending his time on the water — ideally across seasons.

Together with his fiancé, he began an intentional search for a powerboat that could meet an exacting list of non-negotiables:

  • The ability to cruise comfortably to the Bahamas

  • Luxurious accommodations for at least one additional couple

  • A refined, versatile interior suitable for entertaining

Only one brand delivered across every dimension: Nimbus.

Elegance in the Details: Falling for the T11

The moment they stepped aboard the T11, David and his fiancé knew they’d found something exceptional. From the well-appointed dining area to the premium galley appliances and spacious aft garage, every element of the craft spoke to both function and finesse.

Yet what truly sealed their admiration was the overall feel. “The fit and finish were something we hadn’t seen in a boat like that,” said David. “We didn’t have to give up the yacht feel, and everything felt very well-engineered. It’s an incredible riding boat.”

At just over 40 feet, the T11 offered the ideal proportions for their lifestyle: capacious enough for comfort, yet nimble and manageable for quick getaways. With its sleek Scandinavian lines and uncompromising attention to detail, the vessel aligned perfectly with their vision.

Tailored Touches

After selecting their model, the couple opted for several customizations, including air conditioning and a Seakeeper system powered by a lithium-ion battery, ensuring a smooth ride even in challenging conditions. With several additional options available, HMY Yacht Sales Professional Jake Maloney guided them through the selection and customization process. Not long thereafter, their dreamboat was complete.

David chose the name “Roger That,” a tribute to his late father, an Air Force fighter pilot and proud member of the Voodoo Squadron. Complementing the name, a purple butterfly near the stern honors the memory of David’s late mother — a meaningful and personal flourish on an already bespoke vessel.

Charting New Horizons: From the Keys to the Cay

While the Bahamas were the initial destination in mind, the T11’s maiden voyage took the couple and six guests to the Florida Keys for a celebratory birthday escape. Despite encountering two- to three-foot swells, the boat performed flawlessly. “It absorbed eight people like it was nothing,” David recalls. “It took longer than we expected, but no one even noticed.”

Their next journey did finally land them in the Bahamas — and the experience was just as seamless. “The boat did everything it was supposed to do,” David says. “Even the captain noted that there wasn’t a single creak or crack.”

Life with the Nimbus T11

Now a year into ownership, David’s passion for boating has reached new heights. Once an avid cross-country motorcyclist, he finds new thrills on the water — whether it’s an impromptu excursion to the Bahamas or a leisurely cruise along the coast.

One particularly memorable voyage took them to Green Turtle Cay, where changing weather prompted a swift departure. Thanks to the T11’s responsive controls and cruise control, David was able to manage a 110-mile passage in complete comfort. “I didn’t have to touch anything until we were ready to dock.”

Cruising effortlessly at 30 knots with ample range for island-hopping, the T11 has become more than a boat; it’s a gateway to entertainment, refinement, and unbridled exploration.
