Introducing The New Viking Yachts 44’ Convertible

By Lacey Hagler   March 28, 2018

Viking Yachts engineered the new versatile 44’ Convertible as a worthy tournament competitor with the opulent comforts you expect on a luxury yacht, truly delivering the best of both worlds.

Ride

With a raked bow, sloping sheer, and nearly 6 feet of freeboard, the Viking 44 C carves through rollers as its chines and strakes deflect spray with ease, contributing to an exceptional ride with a top speed of 38 knots and a cruise speed between 32 and 34 knots. For those used to running larger yachts, the maneuverability around a dock or on a fish found on the Viking 44 C is sensationally liberating.

Size

For anglers and small families alike looking to become a first-time Viking-owner, the Viking 44 C is a dynamic powerhouse that gives you a tournament-contending edge, while uncompromising regardless of size. With a 6’4” beam and 119 square foot fishable cockpit, this beast is only eight inches less beamy and five square feet shy in the cockpit than her big sister, the Viking 48 Convertible. In 1981, the largest convertible made by Viking was 46’, so from a historical perspective with the Viking 44 C sitting at a 45’1” length overall, she would’ve been a top dog back in the day.

Fishing Features

Leading the industry, Viking Yachts engineers and outfits every model with the highest standards. In true sportfish fashion, the arsenal of standard cockpit equipment includes flush rod holders, salt and fresh water washdown systems, a transom live well, a transom door with liftgate, tackle stowage, a step-box cooler, and an in-deck fish and stowage well.

Viking stays true to accommodating guests who prefer to watch fish-fighting in comfortable stability by including their signature aft-facing mezzanine lounge seating shaded by the flybridge’s fiberglass overhang, and by engineering her for the installation of a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer.

Helm

On the flybridge, the helm is located centerline behind a wraparound windshield, 360-degree visibility, and clear view of the cockpit for the captain. Captain is protected from the wind and water, along with companions who choose to lounge on port, starboard, or forward seating. The Viking 44 C helm has plenty of space for three 17-MFDs alongside all engine instrumentation and electronics you need to carry out duties of a much larger boat.

Engineroom

The blinding white engineroom is easily accessible through the observation mezzanine showcasing Twin 880-hp MAN 6-cylinder diesel engines as standard power, with an option of 1000 HP Volvo Penta D13 engines. This is supplemented with a standard Delta-T engineroom ventilation system, oil exchange system, and an Onan 13.5 kW electronic quiet diesel generator.

Salon

Stepping into the Viking 44 C, you’re greeted with a surprisingly spacious split-level air-conditioned salon which provides plush comfortable seating in the raised dinette, L-shaped lounge, or barstools matched with Corian countertops, a high-gloss teak, and a 40-inch flat screen TV.

Accommodations

The warm and welcoming master stateroom amidships presents a queen-sized walk-around bed, plenty of maple-lined storage, night tables, a 28-inch flat-screen TV with stereo speakers, and a private head equipped with a fiberglass shower, and a teak and Corian vanity.

The forward stateroom utilizes space by arranging two single berths as a crossover configuration, and still provides this stateroom a second head and shower.

Dominant in Her Class

Viking Yachts’ experience in building convertible sportfishing yachts has spanned more than five decades to perpetuate the innovation and elite standards that have brought them to the latest Viking 44 Convertible. The Viking 44 C excels as a fine contender in the world of sportfishing, while accommodating creature comforts and being a manageable size for the freedoms that come along with a smaller Viking model. She bridges the gap for Viking enthusiasts who want that third berth, livable kitchen, larger split-level salon with a bar, barstools and a settee that comes when you make that jump from the 42 C to the 44 C, but don’t quite need the expansiveness of the 48 C. Once again, Viking has brought an impressively engineered new model which dominates any sportfish in her class.
