HMY Yacht Sales began on November 1, 1979, with humble beginnings in a floating office in Fort Lauderdale. With just one employee, HMY set out to redefine yacht sales. Since then, HMY has grown into an industry leader.
With over a dozen sales locations stretching from Ocean Reef, Florida, to Newport, Rhode Island, over 70 experienced sales professionals, and a dedicated team, HMY excels in every aspect of the yachting world—sales, service, charter, and management.
1975
Steve Moynihan’s Vision
Steve Moynihan’s journey into the marine industry started in 1975 at a yacht multiple-listing firm. His first week, spent at the iconic Miami Boat Show, ignited a passion that would shape his career. His position at the MLS opened doors, and by 1977, at just 21 years old, Steve earned his yacht brokerage license and set out to make waves with a career in yacht sales.
In 1979, Steve co-founded HMY Yacht Sales and later became the sole owner. Reflecting on his early days, Steve recalls:
“I was 24 years old in Fort Lauderdale, trying to figure out what I wanted to do and who I was going to do it with. At that age, I didn’t have any idea that we were ever going to be the HMY that everyone knows today, but decades later, here we are.”
