288 Liberty; 288 Family Fisherman
Length w/ Pulpit:
The Stamas 288 Liberty (called the 288 Family Fisherman in 199394) was an affordably priced express whose conservative styling, roomy cockpit, and comfortable open-water ride made her a popular boat with knowledgeable anglers. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, and a wide 11-foot, 2-inch beam made the Liberty one of the bigger 28-footers in her class. Key to the success of the boat is her practical deck plan and spacious midcabin interior. The single-level cockpit is arranged with two forward fish boxes, two livewells, 14 rod holders, and an oversized 58-inch icebox. Visibility from the raised helm is excellent, and a bait station with tackle drawer is built into the back of the helm seat. Below, there are berths for four in the cabintwo adults and two kidswith an enclosed, standup head, generous storage, dinette, and a compact galley with sink and refrigerator. The Stamas 288 Liberty was offered with a choice of sterndrive or bracket-mounted outboard power. Twin 205hp MerCruiser I/Os cruise at 20 knots (30+ knots top), and a pair of 225hp outboards cruise at 25 knots and top out in the mid-to-high 30s.
