The Marine Trader 36 is your generic double cabin trawler whose classic profile, full teak interior, walkaround decks, andmost important of allinexpensive price combined all the elements of a successful Taiwan import. Like most trawler designs, the Marine Trader 36 was heavily built on a solid fiberglass hull with hard aft chines, a flared bow, and a long, prop-protecting keel. One of the most appealing features of the 36 (as well as most Asian-built trawlers, for that matter) is her traditional, all-teak interior. Originally designed with the galley to port in the salon and twin berths in the aft cabin, in 1977 the floorplan was rearranged with the galley moved to starboard and a dresser replacing the single berth in the aft stateroom. A lower helm was standard, and a tub/shower is located in the aft head. Note the access door from the aft stateroom directly to the cockpit. Additional features include port and starboard deck doors, a functional mast and boom, teak swim platform, teak decks, and teak handrails. With a single Lehman 6-cylinder diesel, the Marine Trader 36 will cruise efficiently at 78 knots. Early models often suffered from window leaks and various electrical problems.
