The Albin 36 Express Trawler—a 33-footer with a three-foot swim platform—is a sturdy, well-built sedan cruiser whose stylish, reverse-slanted front windshield is certainly her most distinguishing feature. Her trawler-style appearance is deceiving; she actually rides on a planing hull with a shallow, full-length keel which allows her to reach cruising speeds far in excess of conventional trawlers with their slower semi-displacement hulls. Below deck, the two-stateroom interior of the Albin 36 is arranged with V-berths forward and a midcabin to port with an athwartships double berth extending under the salon floor. To make this second stateroom possible, the engines are aft in the Albin 36, under the cockpit sole, where V-drives are used to deliver the power. A lower helm was standard. Additional features include a spacious flybridge with an extended hardtop and fold-down radar mast, an integral swim platform with handrails, side exhausts, and a transom door. Among several engine options, a single 420hp Cat diesel will cruise at 12–13 knots, and 270hp Cummins diesels cruise at 16–17 knots and reach a top speed of around 20 knots.
