A popular boat during her decade-long production run, the 43 Portofino was one of the largest express cruisers of her day when she was introduced in 1987. With her bold Euro-style appearance and spacious accommodations, the Portofino conveyed an aura of comfort and luxury seldom seen in an American express yacht. She was constructed on a low-deadrise hull with a wide 14'6"" beam, prop pockets, and a solid fiberglass bottom. Originally offered with a single-stateroom interior, in 1990 a two-stateroom floorplan proved more practical for cruising with quests. Either way, the head contains a separate stall shower and the sofa converts to a double berth. On deck, the Portifino’s roomy cockpit offers seating for a small crowd. Engine access is excellent—a hatch in the bridge deck reveals a ladder that leads down between the engines. A radar arch, transom door, bow pulpit, cockpit wet bar, and fender storage racks were standard. Side-dumping exhausts keep gas fumes away from the cockpit while underway. No lightweight, standard 340hp gas engines cruise the 43 Portofino at only 15–16 knots (mid 20s top). Optional 375hp Cat diesels cruise at 20–22 knots and top out in the mid 20s.
