A popular model in the late 1990s, the Wellcraft 302 Scarab Sport is an updated version of the original 30 Scarab Sport (197993) with new deck and console tooling. Like her predecessor, the 302 evolved from Wellcrafts offshore racing program of the early 1970s. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with a narrow 8-foot beam, the 302 Scarab combines the speed and handling characteristics of her predecessors with a cockpit designed for tournament-level fishing pursuits. Standard features include a leaning post with drop-down bolsters, 40-gallon oval livewell, raw-water washdown, in-deck fish box, transom fish box, forward console seat, removable rear bench seat, trim tabs, cockpit lights, beverage holders, molded forward seats, low-profile bow rails, under-gunnel rod storage, gunnel rod holders, and fore/aft cockpit bolsters. The 302s lockable cuddy cabin contains a V-berth, storage lockers, and space for a portable head. A fast ride with impressive open-water performance, the 302s narrow beam results in marginal low-speed stability. Twin 150hp outboards reach about 40 knots top; twin 225s top out at 55+ knots.
