A strong selling boat with over 100 delivered, Viking got it right with the 53 Convertible, a balanced blend of handsome styling, luxurious accommodations, and solid performance. She was built on a low-deadrise, modified-V hull with a wide beam and a shallow keel for directional stability. Several interior layouts were available during her production run. The original galley-up floorplan has three staterooms and two heads on the lower level with the master stateroom to starboard. In 1992 an angled double bed replaced the single berths in the forward stateroom, and the last layoutintroduced in 1993has a walkaround queen bed in the bow stateroom. The beautifully appointed interior of the Viking 53 was lavish indeed by the standards of her day, especially for a sportfishing yacht. The cockpit features a full tackle center, transom door, in-deck fish box, and access to a huge engine room. The flybridge is equally large and features well-conceived helm console. Updates in 1997 included restyled (frameless) deckhouse windows and an extended flybridge. Standard 840hp MANs cruise at 2627 knots (30 knots top). Twin 1,000hp MANs cruise at 30 knots (low 30s top), and 1,200hp MANs top out at 3637 knots.
