Successor to the original Viking 50 Convertible (1991–2001), the second-generation Viking 50 offers a level of luxury and comfort seldom encountered in a sportfishing yacht her size. It goes without saying that Viking practically owns the market for high-end convertibles these days—with Hatteras and Bertram on the ropes (as of mid 2014) the competition is thin indeed. The 50 Convertible is built on a high-tech, fully cored hull with prop pockets and a wide 17-foot beam. Her executive-class accommodations are highlighted by a spacious salon/dinette/galley area with sectional lounge seating aft and an innovative L-shaped galley forward, to starboard, complete with an island counter with two stools. Below, the three-stateroom, two-head layout has an amidships master with an island berth and two guest staterooms with upper and lower berths. Note the washer/dryer in the amidships guest stateroom. Cockpit amenities include two insulated in-deck fish boxes, transom livewell, and mezzanine seating with bait freezer and storage under. Topside, the flybridge comes complete with a teak helm pod and single-lever controls. MAN 1350hp diesels cruise at a fast 35 knots (nearly 40 knots top).
