A sturdy and well-engineered boat, the Uniflite 38 Convertible was designed to meet the demands of serious fishing as well as comfortable family cruising. Heavily built, she was available with two basic floorplans: a single-stateroom, galley-down arrangement, and the standard two-stateroom, galley-up plan—the latter being somewhat notable for the small galley wedged into the forward corner of the salon. Both layouts had the convenience of a double-entry head, stall shower, and large staterooms. The 38’s salon is spacious for a boat of this size. The portside lower helm station was an option, and most were so equipped. As a sportfisherman, the 38 has a large and uncluttered cockpit with a molded-in fish box and relatively wide side decks. While the 400-gallon fuel capacity is more than adequate in the diesel-powered models, those with gas engines carry only 300 gallons—definitely on the light side. Additional features include a bow pulpit, swim platform, wraparound salon windows, and a well-arranged engine room. Optional 310hp J&T 6-71Ns cruise the Uniflite 38 at a steady 18 knots and reach 22–23 knots at full throttle. Note that in 1985 Chris Craft reintroduced this boat as the 382 Commander.
