The Uniflite 36 Double Cabin was one of the earliest aft cabin designs to incorporate a floorplan featuring a full-width master stateroom. She was a good seller for Uniflite right up to the company’s demise in 1984. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam, engineering and construction were held to generally high standards although many of these boats later developed blisters in both the hull and topside surfaces. A pair of floorplans were used during her production years, one with single berths aft and the other with a queen berth aft. A lower helm was standard, and a separate stall shower is found in the forward head. Standard 350hp gas engines cruise the Uniflite 36 at 18 knots with a top speed in the high 20s. In 1984, the 36 II version was introduced with a fully cored hull, a new flybridge profile, and a revised interior layout. The weight savings— about 3,000 pounds—allowed smaller 270hp gas engines to nearly match the performance of the larger 454s used in the earlier models. When Uniflite closed in 1984 Chris Craft picked up the molds and reintroduced her as the 362 Catalina. Note that a cockpit version of this boat, the Uniflite 41 Yacht Fisherman, came out in 1981.
