Originally designed for commercial tuna fishing, the True World TE288 is a single-diesel hardtop express whose sterndrive/jackshaft power system offers an economical alternative to the many outboard-powered fishing boats in this size range. The TE288 is a pure fishing boat, not a crossover design loaded with cruising amenities. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with a flared bow and moderate beam, the semi-enclosed helm and super-wide side decks of the TE288 are two of her more notable characteristics. Cockpit features include under-gunwale rod holders, two in-deck fish boxes, leaning post with rocket launchers, and a 28-gallon transom livewell. Note the transom storage compartments. Below, the no-frills cabin features a dinette/V-berth, mini-galley, and standup head with shower. On the downside, the pilothouse superstructure impairs helm visibility. The TE 288s amidships engine location lowers the boats center of gravity for improved balance and low-speed stability. No racehorse, cruise at 2223 knots with a Yanmar 315hp diesel (and Bravo III outdrive) burning just 67 gallons per hour.
