The history of this model is a bit difficult to follow. Trojan introduced her in 1993 as the 370 Express—basically a reworked version of the company’s earlier 10.8 Meter Mid-Cabin model (1991–92). In 1995 she became the Trojan 390 when a new extended swim platform increased her length, and in 1998—for no apparent reason—she became the Trojan 400 Express. Through all of the name changes, the cockpit and interior remained basically unchanged. Curved companionway steps lead into a comfortable salon with cherrywood cabinets and 6 feet, 4 inches of headroom. A bi-fold door separates the forward stateroom from the salon, while a curtain provides privacy in the midcabin. In the head, the toilet is hidden under a seat in the shower to conserve space. Topside, the 440’s cockpit has a triple helm seat to starboard as well as a large L-shaped lounge aft. Note that the entire aft deck can be raised on hydraulic rams for access to a very roomy engine compartment. Among several engine options, twin 320hp V-drive gas inboards cruise at 18 knots (26–27 knots top), and optional 330hp Cummins diesels cruise in the mid 20s.
