An excellent sea boat, the 40 Sport Sedan is the only dedicated sportfishing design ever offered by Tollycraft. Introduced in 1987, she rides on the proven low-deadrise hull design used in several previous Tollycraft models. Originally offered with the galley in the salon and two staterooms forward, a revised interior in 1989 expanded the main deck area by moving the galley farther forward and separating it from the salon with a snack bar. Finally, in 1995—the final year of production—Tollycraft introduced an all-new, galley-down floorplan with a more open salon and a slightly smaller bow stateroom. In each of these floorplans, a lower helm was optional, and the interior was tastefully decorated with teak woodwork, designer fabrics, and quality hardware and furnishings. Topside, a transom door was standard in the large cockpit, and wide side decks make foredeck access easy and secure. The flybridge—available with the helm forward or aft—seats up to six in comfort. Note that a radar arch was a popular option. Caterpillar 375hp diesels cruise the Tollycraft 40 at 23 knots (26–27 knots top), and 485hp Detroit 6-71s cruise in the mid 20s and reach 30 knots wide open.
