Anyone who’s ever spent time around a Southport boat will know in advance what to expect with the Southport 28 Express—quality, and plenty of it. Built on a solid fiberglass Hunt-designed hull with a flared bow and reverse transom, the graceful lines of the 28 Express are a match for the best-looking sport fishing boats in her class. The bridge deck accommodates guests in a two-place lounge seat to port, and aft-facing seats in the cockpit house a 50-gallon stand-up livewell to port and a large insulated fish/storage box to starboard. A rigging station and fish box are built into to transom, and lockable tackle storage trays are behind the helm seat. The bench seat at the transom folds away to free up valuable cockpit space. Below, the Southport’s well-finished cabin has all the basics—dinette/V-berth forward, enclose head with electric toilet and shower, and small galley with microwave, refrigerator and sink. Additional features include a factory hardtop with powder-coated frame, fresh and raw-water washdowns, cockpit bolsters, transom storage locker, and lots of rod holders. A top-tier boat in every respect, twin Yamaha F250s reach a top speed of nearly 45 knots.
