The Selene 53, 54 and 55 are essentially the same boat with variations in LOA, engines and tankage. The original Selene 53 (sold as the Selene 55 in 2005–09) morphed into the Selene 54 in 2013 when new molds were built to continue this popular model in production. (The specs below are for the Selene 54 as posted on the company website.) The hull form has a hard chine in the aft sections to reduce roll, merging into the traditional displacement boat’s round bilges by the mid sections, giving the Selene it’s impressive range of more than 2,000 nautical miles at 8 knots. Several three stateroom interiors have been available over the years, all with galley integrated into the salon and most with Burmese teak or varnished cherry woodwork throughout. The focal point of these durable yachts is the well-appointed pilothouse — fronted by a Portuguese bridge — that towers high above the water. The full beam amidships master has direct access to the Selene’s standup engine room which is also reached via a spiral staircase opposite the galley. While most 54s and 55s are powered with a single diesel (plus an auxiliary wing engine), many 53s were built with twin Cummins diesels.
