The Sea Ray 550 Sedan Bridge is a lengthened version of the Sea Ray 500 Sedan Bridge (1990–94). The difference is the 550’s much larger cockpit, a feature that allowed Sea Ray to market the 550 as both a cruising yacht and fishing boat. The hull is fully cored, and it’s worth noting (again) that Sea Ray had issues with cored hulls in the 1990s. Many sedan yachts this size have just two staterooms, but the 550 has three including a big master stateroom and surprisingly roomy starboard guest stateroom. The third guest stateroom is located port featuring upper/lower berths. Aft in the companionway is a washer/dryer combo. The salon is impressive, a wide-open living area with cut-down galley, long leather sofa, and big wraparound cabin windows. Both heads have separate stall showers, but the day head is on the small side. In 1996, the flybridge ladder was replaced with molded steps, and the flybridge helm was relocated aft with bench seating forward. The drooping bow of the Sea Ray 550 will raise eyebrows with experienced boaters — there are probably better headsea boats. Detroit 625hp 6V-92 cruise at 22–24 knots.

Overview

Stretched version of Sea Ray 500 Sedan Bridge (1989–95) adds much-needed cockpit space to an otherwise well-rounded yacht.

Features

Standard three-stateroom layout includes large owner’s stateroom, dinette, breakfast bar, under-counter refrigeration, washer/dryer. Huge flybridge seats a small crowd. Transom door, radar arch, bow pulpit were standard.

Comments

One of Sea Ray’s most popular models. Portside lower helm was optional. Hull is fully cored.

Performance

Twin 635hp Detroits cruise in the mid 20s; 776hp Cats cruise in the high 20s.
