Introduced in 1988, the 460 Convertible was Sea Ray’s first serious effort to market a tournament-level sportfishing boat. The styling was bold by the standards of her day (note the rakish fiberglass hardtop), and the 460’s wide 15-foot beam allowed Sea Ray engineers to deliver spacious cabin accommodations as well as a large 100-square-foot cockpit. The two-stateroom interior is a 1980s blend of ultrasuedes and vinyls matched with gray Formica counters and cabinets—a Euro-style decor that many anglers found lacking in appeal. The master stateroom is amidships in this layout, and over/under bunks are fitted in the bow stateroom. A huge L-shaped sofa dominates the salon, which also features a full dinette forward and a built-in entertainment center aft. Outside, the cockpit is large enough for a mounted chair and bait prep station, and the bridge ladder is mounted sideways to save space. Additional features include propeller pockets, two in-deck fish boxes, transom door, and a large flybridge with seating for six. Twin 550hp 6V92 Detroit diesels cruise the 460 Convertible in the low 20s and reach a top speed of just over 25 knots. Note the short two-year production run.

Overview

Boldly styled 1980’s convertible was Sea Ray’s only serious effort to market a tournament-level sportfishing boat.

Features

Comments
