Beginning in 2006, pod drive propulsion systems have evolved from a novel engineering concept to a marine industry game changer. Led by Tiara Yachts, builders have begun to introduce new models specifically designed for pod drive power. The 450 Sundancer is one of these new-breed designs, a high-impact sport yacht whose innovative interior offers something different from previous Sundancer models—a media room, complete with 37"" TV, leather settee and cocktail tables. Because the Zeus pod drives used in the 450 require less engine room space than traditional V-drive inboards, Sea Ray engineers were able to create a much larger amidships area aft of the salon—space dedicated a second stateroom in previous Sundancer models but now used for the 450’s media room. In other respects, the 450 Sundancer follows the pattern of previous Sundancer model introductions: cutting-edge styling, sumptuous accommodations, and yacht-class construction. Features include a hardtop with retractable sunroof, huge cockpit with full-service wet bar, and joystick controls. The entire aft cockpit floor lifts for engine access. Cruise at 25 knots (30+ top) with 364hp Cummins diesels with Zeus drives.

The Sea Ray 450 Sundancer was one of the largest sport cruisers available when she was introduced in 1995. Her bold styling has held up well over the years, and with a wide 14-foot beam the interior of the Sundancer provides comfortable accommodations in very elegant surroundings. Like most late-model Sea Ray yachts, the 450 rides on a fully cored hull with prop pockets and a steep 20 degrees of transom deadrise. Sea Ray offered two floorplans for the 450 during her 5-year production run, both with private staterooms fore and aft, two full heads, and a convertible salon sofa. Faux granite countertops highlight the galley, and high-gloss oak cabinets are found throughout the interior. In the cockpit, a circular aft-facing seat, U-shaped seating and cocktail tables convert into a huge sun pad. A wet bar and transom door were standard, and a gas-assist hatch in the cockpit sole provides good access to the engine compartment. Additional features include a reverse sport arch, transom storage locker, underwater exhaust system, and an extended swim platform. Twin 340hp V-drive Cat diesels cruise the 450 Sundancer in the low 20s, and 420hp Cats cruise in the mid 20s and top out at 30+ knots.
