Sea Ray hit all the right buttons with the introduction of the 340 Sundancer in 2003. There have been several 340 Sundancer models in the Sea Ray lineup in recent years, each of which has dominated the market in sales and owner popularity. Wider in the beam than her predecessor — with a newly designed cockpit and increased transom deadrise —the sleek styling of the 340 Sundancer was a match for the best European sport boats of her day. Stepping below through a companionway slightly offset to port, the Sundancer’s elegant open-plan interior is a rich blend of dark cherrywood cabinets, earth-tone wall coverings, and posh Ultraleather upholstery. Privacy curtains separate the fore and aft berths from the salon, and the well-designed galley has more counter space than most cruisers this size. Topside, the single-level cockpit features a big U-shaped settee/dinette (with removable cocktail table) aft, wet bar with refrigerator, and twin captain’s seats at the helm. An electric hatch lifts to reveal the 340’s (compact) engine compartment. The transom storage locker is a handy feature. MerCruiser 8.1L 375hp V-drive inboards cruise the 340 Sundancer at 26–28 knots (low 30s top).

Second in a series of 340 Sundancer models produced by Sea Ray over the years, the graceful lines of this popular express conceal a roomy open-plan interior with walkaround island berth forward, convertible dinette to starboard in the salon, and a comfortable U-shaped settee/dinette in the sunken mid-cabin area. Privacy curtains separate both sleeping areas from the salon, and a flat screen TV above the galley pulls out on a swivel for viewing anywhere in the cabin. Cherrywood cabinets and trim, Corian countertops, and vinyl wall coverings highlight the 340’s well-appointed decor. Sea Ray got it right back in 1984 with the introduction of the 340 Sundancer, a roomy midcabin cruiser with sleeping space for three couples and a smooth-riding deep-V hull. The Sundancer was considered a big boat in her day, and her blend of big-boat accommodations and an affordable price struck a responsive chord with the boating public. Three floorplans were offered during her production years, all with a private aft cabin and a forward stateroom open to the main cabin. The original layout was arranged with the dinette to starboard and a small galley and settee to port. In 1986 Sea Ray came out with a more functional interior featuring a big U-shaped galley as well as an enlarged dinette. Finally, in 1988 the island berth in the bow stateroom was replaced with a full-width bed and (optional) built-in entertainment center. In the cockpit, elevated helm and companion seats are to starboard, and a removable bench seat at the transom holds four adults. Removable hatches in the aft cockpit sole provide good access to the motors. Standard 340hp MerCruiser V-drive gas inboards cruise the Sundancer in the low 20s (about 30 knots top). Note the modest 172-gallon fuel capacity.
