Sexy, sleek, and loaded with top-shelf amenities, the Sea Ray 300 Sundancer’s combination of quality and performance found a receptive market following her introduction in 2002. This is the fourth in a series of 300 Sundancer models from Sea Ray going back to the late 1980s. Like her predecessors, the Sundancer rides on a deep-V hull with moderate beam and a solid fiberglass bottom. Two midcabin interior plans were available: The standard layout has a convertible dinette to starboard in the salon, and an optional layout has a convertible sofa with matching table replacing the dinette. Both plans feature a space-saving diagonal double berth forward, galley with large sink, microwave, and two-burner cooktop, and enclosed head with hand-held shower. Privacy curtains separate the sleeping areas from the main cabin. The Sundancer’s well-appointed interior is finished with earth-tone fabrics and attractive burlwood cabinets. The cockpit features a wet bar and removable table in addition to fore-and-aft facing bench seats. The cockpit sole lifts on hydraulic rams for engine access. No lightweight, MerCruiser 260hp sterndrives cruise the Sea Ray 300 Sundancer at close to 20–22 knots (mid 30s top).

Overview

Sophisticated sportcruiser combined graceful styling with best-in-class accommodations, good open-water performance.

Features

Highlights include upscale interior with cherrywood cabinetry, extended swim platform, versatile cockpit with foldaway rear seat, sporty helm with flip-up bolster seat. Salon was offered with choice of dinette or curved settee.

Comments

More galley stowage than many 30-footers. Cockpit sole lifts electrically for engine access.

Performance

Twin 260hp MerCruiser sterndrive engines cruise at 20 knots (around 35 knots top).

With her oval port lights, low-profile arch, and sculptured lines, this third version of Sea Ray’s 300 Sundancer series was one of the best-looking sportboats in the market during the late 1990s. She’s built on the same easy-riding deep-V hull used in the production of the previous 300 Sundancer model (1992–93), but with a restyled profile, updated interior, additional (and badly needed) fuel capacity, and a revised cockpit layout. Accommodations for six are provided below in two different floorplan configurations, both with a standup head with shower, full galley, two hanging lockers, and a convertible dinette. On deck, visibility from the triple helm seat is very good, and a protected chart flat is built into the dash. A filler converts the U-shaped cockpit seating aft of the helm into a large sun pad. Additional features include a walk-through transom, molded bow pulpit, radar arch, and good engine access. Offered with inboard or sterndrive power, twin 250hp MerCruiser V-drive inboards cruise at 19–20 knots (about 30 knots top). The less-popular sterndrive versions of the same engines cruise in the low 20s and top out at close to 35 knots.

Overview

Classy midcabin express from the mid 1990s offered Sea Ray owners state-of-the-art comfort, styling at a reasonable price.

Features

Cockpit with facing bench seats, triple helm seat is larger than most 30-foot express cruisers. Traditional midcabin interior with teak trim, stand-up head, full galley, sleeps six.

Comments

Deep-V hull delivers a good open-water ride. Chart flat in dash is a nice touch.

Performance

Twin 250hp V-drive inboards cruise at 20 knots (30 top); sterndrive versions of the same engines cruise in the low 20s (about 35 knots top).

A stylish boat when she was introduced in 1992, the Sea Ray 300 Sundancer combined a contemporary profile and comfortable accommodations in an affordable package aimed at the entry-level family cruiser market. Like most Sea Ray cruisers of her era, the 300 rides on a solid fiberglass deep-V hull with an integrated transom and a wide 10-foot, 6-inch beam. Two floorplans were available in this boat, both featuring a large midcabin aft and a V-berth forward. The galley is large enough to include plenty of storage as well as a cutting board, and the decor is an old-fashioned blend of carpet and mica. Topside, visibility from the elevated triple-wide helm is excellent. Guest seating is provided for six in the cockpit, and the bench seat at the transom folds away for access to the engine compartment. Additional features include an integral bow pulpit, sliding cabin windows, transom door, and cockpit refreshment center. A radar arch was a popular option. Among several engine choices, twin 230hp MerCruiser V-drive inboards cruise at 19–20 knots (about 30 knots top), and the same motors with sterndrives cruise in the low 20s and top out at close to 35 knots. Note the modest fuel capacity.

Overview

Contemporary 1990s express with integral swim platform delivered crisp styling with common-sense layout, quality construction.

Features

Generic midcabin interior with convertible dinette sleeps six. Triple-wide helm seat, aft-facing bench seat, wet bar, foldaway rear seat were standard in cockpit. Integral swim platform, vented windshield, good engine access.

Comments

Small fuel capacity limits range. Replaced in 1994 with new 300 Sundancer model.

Performance

Cruise at 20 knots with 230hp V-drive inboards; 22–24 knots with 230hp sterndrives.
